Railway projects approved by the Union Cabinet received strong praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The Cabinet cleared eight railway projects worth more than Rs 20,000 crore. These railway projects will ensure stronger connectivity, faster passenger movement and lower logistics cost.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the Union Cabinet’s approval of eight railway projects. The total value of these railway projects stands at more than Rs 20,000 crore. The decision aims to improve rail links in several parts of the country. The Cabinet approved the projects to expand the existing network of Indian Railways. Work on these railway projects is planned for completion up to 2029-30. The move covers multiple districts in different states.
The Cabinet approved five multitracking railway projects. These cover 17 districts across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. The five railway projects will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 540 kms. The total estimated cost of these five projects is Rs 10,021 crore. They are planned to be completed up to 2029-30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the five major railway projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore will ensure better rail connectivity in South India.
The Cabinet also approved three multitracking railway projects. These cover 14 districts across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The three railway projects will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 656 kms. The total estimated cost of these three projects is Rs 10,783 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the Cabinet’s decision on these three multitracking projects worth over Rs 10,500 crore will ensure additional railway network. The projects will improve connectivity across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his views on the social media platform X. He said, “Lakhs of people to benefit. Today’s Cabinet decision ensures faster passenger movement, stronger connectivity and additional freight capacity.” He further stated that the projects will encourage tourism, especially heritage and wildlife related tourism. The railway projects will also lower logistics costs.
The approved railway projects will bring several benefits for people in the covered states. Lakhs of people are expected to benefit from improved rail services. Faster passenger movement will become possible once the projects are completed. Stronger connectivity will link more areas. Additional freight capacity will support movement of goods. The railway projects will help lower logistics costs for businesses and users. Tourism, including heritage and wildlife related tourism, is expected to receive a boost in the regions covered by the new and expanded lines. People in the 17 districts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana can look forward to the expanded network of about 540 kms. Residents in the 14 districts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh can expect the addition of about 656 kms. All eight railway projects together add significant length to the Indian Railways network. The combined estimated cost exceeds Rs 20,000 crore. Completion is targeted up to the year 2029-30. The Cabinet decision focuses on multitracking to strengthen the existing rail system. This approach supports both passenger and freight needs across the mentioned states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements highlight the focus on connectivity and cost reduction. The railway projects are set to serve large numbers of people in the coming years.
