Odisha government launches Model Village Mission and Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana to develop all Gram Panchayat headquarters into self-sustaining centres.

Model Village Mission takes centre stage as Rural Odisha moves towards inclusive and sustainable development. Minister Shri Rabi Narayan Naik launched the Model Village Mission and the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana (MAGY). The initiatives aim to turn villages into self-sustaining growth centres.Under the Model Village Mission, all 6,733 Gram Panchayat headquarters villages will be developed in phases. The plan includes improved basic amenities, infrastructure, and community facilities. The target is to complete the transformation by 2029.
The Model Village Mission will focus on making villages self-reliant. Officials will work on better roads, drinking water supply, healthcare services, and digital connectivity. Community facilities will also receive attention to support daily life and local growth. The MAGY scheme will support holistic development of Gram Panchayats linked to 16 eminent personalities. These sites spread across 12 districts. Priority areas include roads, drinking water, healthcare, anganwadi centres, digital connectivity, solar infrastructure, memorial parks, and livelihood generation.
State and District Level Task Forces have been formed for both programmes. These teams will ensure coordinated and time-bound implementation. The efforts align with the larger vision of Vikshit Odisha 2036.
The Model Village Mission brings together multiple focus areas for long-term impact. Improved infrastructure will help villages grow economically while maintaining community strength. Better healthcare and education facilities through anganwadi centres will support families. Solar infrastructure and digital connectivity will bridge gaps between rural and urban areas.
People in the selected Gram Panchayats can expect phased upgrades in basic services. Local authorities will lead the work with support from state-level task forces. Residents should stay in touch with their Gram Panchayat offices for updates on timelines and specific works in their villages.
The launch marks a structured approach to rural development in Odisha. Both the Model Village Mission and MAGY aim to create lasting change through focused actions on infrastructure and livelihoods. Implementation will proceed in phases to cover all targeted areas by 2029.
