Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched nationwide celebrations to mark 10 Years of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) – A Decade of Care.The Union Health Minister released a ₹75 commemorative coin and a ₹5 postal stamp during the event to honour the scheme’s ten years of service to mothers across the country.
Achievements Under PMSMA
India has achieved an 86 percent reduction in maternal mortality, which is better than the global average, the Union Minister stated. This marks a major public health success under the scheme.Institutional deliveries have risen to 90.6 percent. Antenatal care coverage has reached 95.9 percent. These numbers show clear progress in mother and child health services.
PMSMA Focus on Safe Motherhood
Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan provides fixed-day assured antenatal care to pregnant women. The scheme aims to detect high-risk pregnancies early and ensure timely care. It has helped strengthen health systems at the ground level over the past decade.The nationwide celebrations will highlight these gains and encourage greater community participation in maternal health programmes. Events will take place across states to spread awareness about safe motherhood and available government services.
The Union Health Minister called upon all stakeholders to build on the progress made under PMSMA. The scheme continues to focus on quality care for every pregnant woman in the country.
